چکیده

ABSTRA CT— This paper presents F-ary convolutional codes for optimal decoding of pulse-amplitude-modulated (PAM) sequences over noisy finite intersymbol interference (1S1) channels. We refer to this new class of codes as ‘Optimal Convolutional Codes 9 (OCCS) for a channel in the sense of maximizing the minimum Euclidean Distance (ED), drni., between channel output sequences corresponding to distinct input message sequences at the Vkerbi detector, super-trellis of convolutional encoder and channel. Due to mismatch between the base fields of convolutional encoder and channel, without resorting analytical methods, exhaustive computer search algorithm is proposed on a set of convolutional encoders, called ‘Standard Trellis’, which have a specific structure in common. This trellis structure offers good properties in finding dmin of a code associated with a given encoder. This search scheme, as an example, is applied to 1 +4D +D2 channel, and search results are shown that the coding gains achieved are comparable to those of the best convolutional codes in perfect response channel. To overcome the high computational complexity of optimal MLSE decoding, new simple and efficient reduced state suboptimal decoding algorithm is also suggested.

Adaptive Coded Modulation for Fading Channels

We apply coset codes to adaptive modulation in fading channels. Adaptive modulation is a powerful technique to improve the energy efficiency and increase the data rate over a fading channel. Coset codes are a natural choice to use with adaptive modulation since the channel coding and modulation designs are separable. Therefore, trellis and lattice codes designed for additive white Gaussian nois...

Linear representations of convolutional codes over rings

In this paper we extend the relation between convolutional codes and linear systems over finite fields to certain commutative rings through first order representations . We introduce the definition of rings with representations as those for which these representations always exist, and we show that finite products of finite fields belong to this class. We develop the input/state/output represen...

Some extended results on the search for good convolutional codes

We provide useful results on two classes of convolutional codes: binary codes and nonbinary codes. The best codes or the best known codes for these two classes of convolutional codes are found by computer search. Some of them are better than those found in the past. We specify these codes by their transfer function matrices, distance spectra, and information-weight spectra. Furthermore, we deri...

Quantum information processing with Clifford quantum cellular automata

In this thesis, we study quantum information processing under constraints on the available operations and resources. The experimental difficulty in implementing quantum computers withmany parallel qubits renders resource-efficient quantum computational schemes with a reduced set of operations a necessity for successful quantum information processing. We focus on Clifford operations, especially ...

The dual of convolutional codes over $\mathbb{Z}_{p^r}$

An important class of codes widely used in applications is the class of convolutional codes. Most of the literature of convolutional codes is devoted to convolutional codes over finite fields. The extension of the concept of convolutional codes from finite fields to finite rings have attracted much attention in recent years due to fact that they are the most appropriate codes for phase modulati...
